I live in Poringland and have done for the past eleven years. I have had my own practice for nine years which is based at my home.   Working from a lovely log cabin set in my garden, gives my clients a calm and relaxed environment for both hypnosis and counselling.    I began by being  introduced to Hypnotherapy  when I enrolled on a course for a diploma in counselling.  I had decided to make a career change after working with children and families for many years.

It had sadly become very clear to me that a great deal of adults were struggling with issues such as stress, anxiety, depression and many other social anxieties, I felt that there was a great need for therapists offering a range of  talking and alternative therapies. This became the area that I wanted to specialize in, as I wanted to help people overcome these difficulties and show them an alternative way  to deal with the challenges life brings.  So  I made the decision to change my path  and train to become a counsellor and hypnotherapist.

Whilst embarking on this new direction I was introduced to hypnotherapy and to be really honest I was a little unsure, having like most only really seen it on TV as a way to get laughs.

I had been advised that it would be a very beneficial tool to aid me in my counselling career.  After trying it for myself and  experiencing it's benefits I was converted. Sometimes we have issues that are deep rooted and hypnotherapy can aid us to reprogramme change within ourselves.  This enables you to put the past behind you and look forward to a new future. So if a client wishes and the need is there it can be incorporated within the work I do.

As a counsellor I offer short term solution focussed therapy using a range of skills and tools, these sessions can be weekly, fortnightly or monthly,  up to 12 sessions if required.

The sessions last an hour and work on finding strategies  and solutions that can be incorporated into daily life to bring about change, sometimes this may require you to work and try techiques between sessions to enable you to begin to move forward. We all have the ablity to bring about change, just sometimes we need a little support to do this.

Over the last 3 years  I have been working within a small team on a project funded by the NHS dealing with clients who have experienced trauma, this work again was very solution focussed but also gave clients the knowledge and understanding how trauma impacts the body and learning how to manage these changes within ourselves after a traumatic event, whether it be recent or historic. Over the years I have gained lots of experience of working in the area of trauma and that and with a background of working with clients with severe anxiety, I feel these are my specialist areas of work, though working in this field all other areas are present so my skills also cover working with depression, self esteem, confidence, sleep, flashbacks and the critical voice to name a few.

Finding a counsellor who can meet theraupeutic needs as a client is important, this is why

I offer a free 45 minute consultation at The Cabin where we can discuss the areas you feel you need support with and we can work out a goal for our therapy sessions, you can also decide if you feel I have the skills  to aid you to move forward.   After the consultation there will be know pressure to book furthur appointments.

If requiring an initial consultation at the Well-being centre there will be a charge of £15.
